APDCL seeks hike in power tariff to raise ₹10,000 croreGuwahati Electric Company Limited (GECL) is petitioning the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) for a hike of Rs. 125 per unit and the fixed charge by Rs. 15 in the power tariff with effect from April 1, 2023-24 to meet its requirement of around Rs. 10,000 crore. This would hit hard households that form around 93 of the company’s consumer base. The proposed tariff which is a combination of fixed charges and variable charges would shoot up by a minimum Rs. 2555 for Jeevan Dhara category for every kilowatt consumed per hour. GECL did not propose any change in the tariff for three categories of consumers - electric vehicles charging stations, electric crematoriums, and railway traction - last year. It has proposed an increase of Rs. 15 in fixed charges for the crematoriums and vehiclecharging stations and Rs. 35 for the railway traction. The company has proposed that consumers with 'domestic connection' pay Rs. 655 per kWh as variable charge for the first 120 units per month which will be an increase of Rs. 125 kWh. It has also been proposed to raise the fixed charge component in this category to Rs. 75 and both components together would be Rs.
